Three Wins is a true story of how a small team of clinical staff in a hospital found a way to improve the quality of the service that their patients received; and an improvement in their working life; and a significant reduction in the cost of treatment. These are the “Three Wins” – Quality, Motivation and Performance.
What is most interesting about this story is that the understanding of how they did it was not present at the beginning – it only became apparent after the improvement had been achieved.
This principle is a characteristic of improvements that appear to happen by more by accident than by design.
“Three Wins” demonstrates that, with the benefit of hindsight, the team were actually using well known and well proven techniques. They just didn’t know it at the time. Perhaps healthcare and process improvement are the same thing?.
